§ 955 Lawyer Privilege Claim Duty

Key Takeaways

  • •Lawyers must keep client talks secret if the law says so.
  • •If someone tries to make the lawyer share those talks, the lawyer has to say no.
  • •The lawyer can only do this if the client allows it or if the law says it's okay.

Example

You tell your lawyer you stole something, and the police ask the lawyer what you said.

The lawyer must say, 'I can't tell you,' because the law says they have to keep it secret unless you say it's okay.
