§ 9504 Voter Pamphlet Rebuttal Arguments

Key Takeaways

  • •If there are arguments for and against a measure in the voter pamphlet, the people who wrote them get to see the other side's argument.
  • •They can write a short reply (no more than 250 words) to explain why they disagree.
  • •The reply must be sent to the elections office by a deadline they set.
  • •The replies will be printed right after the original arguments in the pamphlet.

Example

Imagine there's a vote on whether to build a new park in your town. One group writes why it's a good idea, and another group writes why it's a bad idea.

The group that likes the park will get a copy of the argument against it, and the group that doesn't like the park will get a copy of the argument for it. Both groups can then write a short reply to explain why they still think they're right. These replies will be printed in the voter pamphlet right after the original arguments.
