§ 9285 Voter Guide Rebuttal Arguments

Key Takeaways

  • •If there are arguments for and against a measure in the voter guide, both sides get to see each other's arguments.
  • •The authors of the arguments can write a short (250 words max) reply to the other side's argument.
  • •The reply must be submitted within 10 days after the final deadline for the main arguments.
  • •This rule only applies if the city government votes to use it before the election is called.

Example

A city is voting on whether to build a new park. The voter guide includes arguments for and against the park.

The people who wrote the argument for the park will get a copy of the argument against the park, and vice versa. If they want, they can write a short reply (no more than 250 words) to explain why they disagree with the other side. They have to submit this reply within 10 days after the main arguments are due. This only happens if the city government decided to use this rule before the election was announced.
