§ 6522 Presidential Candidate Withdrawal Affidavit

Key Takeaways

  • •If someone running for president changes their mind, they can tell the state they don’t want to run anymore.
  • •They have to do this at least 68 days before the big vote.
  • •If they do this on time, their name won’t be on the ballot.
  • •This rule helps keep the ballot clean and fair for everyone.

Example

Imagine a person named John says he wants to be president, but later decides he doesn’t want to run anymore.

If John tells the state 68 days before the vote that he’s not running, his name won’t be on the ballot. This way, people won’t vote for someone who isn’t even trying to win.
