§ 3110 Military Voter Late Registration

Key Takeaways

  • •Military or overseas voters can register to vote in person if they return to their home county (or their parent's last U.S. county) within 7 days before an election.
  • •They can ask for a mail-in ballot from the elections office and vote it right there or take it home to mail in by election day.
  • •This rule helps people serving abroad or their families vote even if they come back late.

Example

A soldier comes home from deployment just 5 days before an election.

They can go to their local elections office, sign up to vote if they aren’t already, and get a mail-in ballot to fill out on the spot or take home to send in by election day.
