§ 21571 Kern County Redistricting Commission

Key Takeaways

  • •Kern County has a group called the Citizens Redistricting Commission.
  • •Every 10 years, after the big national count of people (census), this group changes the lines of the areas that each county leader (supervisor) covers.
  • •They do this to make sure each area has about the same number of people.

Example

After the 2030 census, Kern County grows a lot in the north but not much in the south.

The Citizens Redistricting Commission will redraw the supervisor areas so the north gets more supervisors because more people live there now.
