§ 16700 Election Certificate Issuance

This law says that if a court decides someone won an election, they get a special paper proving they won. If they don’t have it yet, the election office must give it to them right away.

Key Takeaways

  • •If a court says you won an election, you get a certificate to prove it.
  • •The election office has to give you this paper right away if you don’t have it yet.
  • •The certificate is signed by the election official to make it official.

Example

Imagine two people run for mayor, and after counting votes, it’s super close. They go to court, and the judge says, 'Alex won!'

The election office must then quickly give Alex a paper that says, 'Alex is the winner' so everyone knows it’s official.
