§ 15000 Pre-Election Voting Machine Tests

This law requires election officials to test ballot‑counting machines at least seven days before an election to make sure they record every vote correctly, following the procedures set by the Secretary of State.

Key Takeaways

  • •Tests must be done no later than seven days before the election.
  • •The test must match the specific voting system used.
  • •The goal is to ensure every vote is recorded accurately.

Example

A county is getting ready for its November city council election.

The elections official runs a test on each electronic vote‑tabulation machine a week before the vote, checking that every ballot is counted exactly as cast, just like checking a calculator before a math test.
