§ 14252 Voter Challenge Records

This law says the precinct board has to keep a list of every voter eligibility challenge, who made the challenge, who was challenged, why, and what the board decided.

Key Takeaways

  • •The board must list the name and address of each person being challenged.
  • •The board must list the name, address, and any ID of the person giving information and the person the information is about.
  • •The board must record why each challenge was made.
  • •The board must record its decision and keep any written evidence.
  • •Any evidence given to the board must be returned to the elections official.

Example

During a city election, a neighbor tells the board that Jane Doe moved out of the district and shouldn't be allowed to vote.

The board writes down Jane's name and address, the neighbor's name and address, the reason (she moved), the board's decision, and any paperwork. After the meeting, the board sends any evidence back to the election official who runs the election.
