§ 13316 Voter Guide Facsimile Use

This law says that if a county, city, or district uses voting machines, they can treat copies of the voter information guide they send out as mail‑in ballots.

Key Takeaways

  • •Only works for places that use voting machines.
  • •A "reasonable facsimile" means a clear, accurate copy of the voter guide.
  • •This rule overrides any other law that might conflict with it.
  • •It became effective on January 1 2017.

Example

A city that uses electronic voting machines sends each registered voter a printed guide that explains how to vote. The city can use a photocopy of that guide as the voter’s mail‑in ballot.

Because the city uses voting machines, the guide (or a good copy of it) counts as a legal mail ballot, even if other rules would normally say something different.
