§ 11022 Recall Notice Publication Requirements

• •The recall notice must be published in a newspaper at the people’s own cost.
• •If no newspaper can publish the notice quickly, it must be posted in at least three public locations.
• •Some parts of the notice (the ones required by paragraph (4) of subdivision (a) of Section 11020) don’t have to be published or posted.

A neighborhood group wants to recall the city’s fire chief. They have to pay to run the recall notice in the local newspaper. If the town has no newspaper that can publish the notice fast enough, they must instead tape the notice to three public places like the city hall bulletin board, the public library, and the post office.

The group follows the law by either publishing the notice in a newspaper or, if that isn’t possible, posting it in three public places so the community can see it.
