§ 87488 Early Retirement Incentive Credit

Key Takeaways

  • •If a community college district is planning to cut back or change how they do things, they can offer a special deal to encourage teachers to retire.
  • •Teachers who take this deal get an extra 2 years added to their retirement benefits.
  • •This deal is only available if it saves the district money and the teacher meets all the rules.

Example

A community college is struggling with money and needs to save cash. They decide to offer teachers a deal to retire early.

If a teacher takes the deal, the college adds 2 extra years to their retirement plan. This helps the teacher get more money when they retire, and the college saves money by not paying their salary anymore.
