§ 79420 Foster Care Education Funding

Key Takeaways

  • •Money given to California Community Colleges for the Foster Care Education Program must be used only to teach and train foster parents and relatives who take care of kids.
  • •The boss of the community colleges (the Chancellor) decides how to spend this money, but they must ask for advice from foster parents, social workers, and others who know about foster care.
  • •If a community college takes this money, they have to follow all the rules and reports the Chancellor asks for.
  • •Each college that gets this money must make a plan with the local child welfare office to train foster parents, especially for homes that take care of up to six kids with special needs.

Example

A community college gets money to teach foster parents how to take care of kids with special needs.

The college must work with the local child welfare office to create classes for foster parents. They can't use the money for anything else, like fixing the college building. They also have to listen to foster parents and social workers about what to teach.
