§ 79206 Calworks Class Funding Approval

Key Takeaways

  • •Extra money can be used to add more classes for CalWORKs students if the college can't afford it otherwise.
  • •Colleges must ask for this money by December 1 every year, using info from fall classes.
  • •If approved, the college must tell the state how many new CalWORKs students are in classes, why more classes were needed, and how the money will be spent by February 15.

Example

A community college has too many CalWORKs students who need classes, but not enough money to open more sections.

The college can ask the chancellor for extra funds to add more classes. If approved, they must report back to the state about how the money helped.
