§ 72205 Community College Gift Acceptance

Key Takeaways

  • •Community colleges can accept gifts, money, or property without asking the state for permission first.
  • •These gifts won’t affect how much money the college gets from the state’s school fund.
  • •The college’s governing board can decide on their own whether to take the gift or not.

Example

A rich person wants to donate $100,000 to a local community college to build a new science lab.

The college can accept the money right away without waiting for the state to say it’s okay. This $100,000 won’t change how much money the college gets from the state for its normal budget.
