§ 68071 Student Residency Requirements

• •If you're a student who pays for everything yourself and live in California for more than a year before applying for residency, you can be considered a resident.
• •You must plan to stay in California to make it your home.
• •You keep your resident status until you meet the usual time needed to become a resident.

A student moves to California, gets a job, and pays for their own rent, food, and school. After living there for a year and a half, they apply to be a resident for tuition purposes.

Because the student has been living in California for more than a year, paying for everything themselves, and plans to stay, they can be considered a resident.
