§ 59026 County Child Care Costs

Key Takeaways

  • •The county pays for certain things like clothes, rides, dentist visits, eye care, surgeries, and hospital stays for kids in emergencies if their parents can't pay.
  • •The county can spend up to $385 (adjusted for inflation every year) on clothes and rides for each kid per school year.
  • •The amount the county can spend goes up a little each year based on how much things cost (like the Consumer Price Index).
  • •The State Controller decides how much the county can spend each year starting from the 1975-76 school year.

Example

A kid breaks their arm at school and needs to go to the hospital, but their parents can't pay for it.

The county will pay for the hospital bill because it's an emergency and the parents can't afford it. This is a legal rule the county has to follow.
