§ 5340 Consolidated School District Elections

Key Takeaways

  • •If two or more school or college districts have elections on the same day, they must combine into one election.
  • •People can vote for all districts at the same time and place, using one ballot.
  • •The elementary school district is the main unit for running the combined election.
  • •The county superintendent must tell all school and college districts at least 130 days before the election that they need to combine.

Example

Two school districts and one community college district are having elections on the same day in the same area.

Instead of having three separate elections, they must combine into one. Voters in that area will go to one place, like their local elementary school, and vote for all three districts using one ballot.
