§ 47631 Charter School Funding Exceptions

Key Takeaways

  • •Some charter schools get special money for kids who are in trouble with the law or got kicked out of school.
  • •These schools get paid based on how many kids show up every day.
  • •The money comes from a special formula that the state uses to decide how much to give.
  • •If a kid is in this special group, the school gets extra money just for them.

Example

A kid named Jamie got in big trouble at school and was expelled. Jamie’s parents enroll them in a special charter school for kids like them.

This charter school gets extra money from the state for Jamie because they were expelled. The school gets paid for every day Jamie shows up, using a special formula to figure out how much money they should get.
