§ 45224 Classified Employee Merger Procedure

Key Takeaways

  • •Big school districts (with 3,000 or more students) can choose to follow special rules for hiring and managing school staff (like janitors or bus drivers).
  • •The school board must vote 'yes' to use these rules, and the county education board must also agree.
  • •They can only do this if no one has already asked for a vote on it (like a petition), or if a vote already happened and failed two years ago.
  • •If they decide to use these rules, they must start using them by July 1st of the next year.

Example

A large school district wants to change how they hire bus drivers and janitors.

The school board and the county education board must agree to use the new rules. If they do, they have to start using them by July 1st next year. But if parents or teachers already asked for a vote on this, they can’t change the rules unless that vote failed two years ago.
