§ 17600 Employing Certificated Employees For Equipment Rep

Key Takeaways

  • •Big school districts (with 400,000 or more students) can hire teachers to fix or build school equipment during their time off.
  • •This is only allowed if the school district is very large.
  • •The work must be related to what the teacher normally does at school.
  • •The school can pay more than $1,000 for this work.

Example

A science teacher is hired during summer break to build new lab tables for the school.

The school district is big enough (over 400,000 students), so they can pay the teacher to do this extra work even if it costs more than $1,000.
