§ 38111 School District Purchasing Authority

Key Takeaways

  • •Schools must buy things like furniture, musical instruments, and sports equipment for students to use.
  • •Schools can also choose to buy uniforms for bands, orchestras, choirs, and sports teams.
  • •Everything bought by the school stays the property of the school, not the students.
  • •Small school districts (not city ones) can only buy things that the county school board has approved.

Example

A high school wants to buy new football uniforms for their team.

The school can decide to buy the uniforms, but they will always belong to the school, not the players. If it's a small school district, they must check if the county school board allows it first.
