§ 35208 School District Liability Insurance

Key Takeaways

  • •Schools must have insurance to cover accidents or damage caused by the school or its employees.
  • •This insurance also protects school board members, teachers, and staff if they accidentally cause harm while doing their jobs.
  • •The insurance can be bought from any company allowed to sell insurance in the state.

Example

A student trips over a loose floor tile in the school hallway and breaks their arm.

The school’s insurance would cover the medical bills because the school is responsible for keeping the building safe. If a teacher accidentally left the tile loose while setting up for an event, the insurance would also protect the teacher from having to pay for the injury.
