§ 33546 Healthy Relationships Education Guidelines

Key Takeaways

  • •California schools must teach kids (kindergarten to 8th grade) about healthy relationships when they update their health lessons.
  • •The lessons must be fair and right for all kids, no matter their race, gender, or background.
  • •Teachers with experience in healthy relationships must help create these lessons.
  • •Kids will learn how to respect others, solve fights with words, and know when to get help if someone is being hurt or bullied.

Example

A 7th-grade student sees another kid being bullied on the playground.

The school’s health class teaches students how to recognize bullying and what to do—like telling a teacher or standing up for the kid being bullied in a safe way. This helps kids learn to handle tough situations the right way.
