§ 33544 High School Sexual Harassment Education

Key Takeaways

  • •High school health classes may teach about sexual harassment and violence, including how to prevent it and where to get help.
  • •Students will learn about 'affirmative consent,' which means both people must clearly say 'yes' to any sexual activity.
  • •The lessons must be fair and respectful to all students, no matter their race, gender, or background.
  • •Teachers and experts will help create these lessons to make sure they are useful and correct.

Example

A high school student feels pressured by their boyfriend to do something they don’t want to do.

The health class teaches that both people must clearly agree to any sexual activity. If one person says 'no' or seems unsure, the answer is 'no.' The student learns it’s okay to set boundaries and how to report if someone doesn’t respect them.
