§ 33125 Special School Employee Annuities

Key Takeaways

  • •The boss of California schools can buy special savings plans (annuities) for teachers at schools for deaf, blind, or kids with brain disabilities.
  • •If a teacher gets this savings plan, their paycheck will be a little smaller to pay for it.
  • •The teacher must ask for this plan—it doesn’t happen automatically.
  • •The savings plan must follow tax rules and insurance laws.

Example

A teacher at the California School for the Deaf wants to save money for retirement.

The teacher can ask the school boss to set up a special savings plan. If approved, a small amount will be taken from their paycheck each month to pay for it. This helps them save money for later, but they’ll take home less money now.
