§ 27412 Spousal Contribution Annuity Eligibility

Key Takeaways

  • •If a couple gets divorced, the money one spouse earned for retirement can sometimes be shared with the other spouse.
  • •The court decides how much of the retirement money the other spouse gets.
  • •This shared money helps decide if the person who earned it can still get their retirement pay.

Example

A husband and wife get divorced. The husband has been saving money for retirement through his job.

The court might say the wife gets some of that retirement money. This shared amount is added to the husband's record to see if he can still get his retirement pay.
