§ 24407 Retirement Allowance Increase Schedule

Key Takeaways

  • •This law gives a raise to people who retired or got disabled before June 30, 1973. The raise started on January 1, 1980.
  • •The amount of the raise depends on when the person retired or died. The earlier they retired or died, the bigger the raise.
  • •If someone retired or got disabled before July 1, 1965, their raise is calculated based on what they were getting on July 1, 1965, but using the percentage from when they actually retired or got disabled.

Example

Imagine your grandpa retired in 1960 and gets a monthly check. Starting in 1980, his check got bigger because of this law.

The law looks at when your grandpa retired (1960) and multiplies his first check by 172.2%. So if his first check was $100, his new check would be $172.20.
