Key Takeaways

  • •You can choose when your disability pay starts, but it has to be after you last worked and earned money.
  • •You must fill out the right forms to apply for disability pay.
  • •If you're still working when your disability pay is approved, you have to tell them within 90 days when you'll stop working. If you don't, you won't get the pay.
  • •The start date can't be before the month you applied or before you were found to be unable to work due to mental issues.

Example

John's disability pay can start on June 1st (the start of the month he applied) if he stops working before that. But if he keeps working, he has to tell them within 90 days when he'll stop, or he won't get the pay.
