§ 22225 Board Member Compensation Protection

Key Takeaways

  • •If you're on the board or a committee for the retirement program, your boss can't cut your pay when you miss work for board meetings.
  • •If your boss hires someone to cover for you while you're at these meetings, the retirement fund will pay them back for that cost.
  • •This rule is for people in the Defined Benefit Program or Cash Balance Benefit Program who are chosen to be on the board or help with its work.

Example

Imagine you work at a school and are chosen to be on the retirement board. You have to go to a board meeting during your work hours.

Your school can't dock your pay for the time you missed at work. If the school hires a substitute teacher to cover your class while you're at the meeting, the retirement fund will pay the school back for that substitute's cost.
