§ 19724 Bond Election Voting Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •Voting is done with a simple ballot that says 'Bonds—Yes' or 'Bonds—No'.
  • •To vote, you put a cross (+) next to your choice with a pencil or pen.
  • •After voting, you give your ballot to the inspector, who puts it in the ballot box.
  • •The judges will write down your name to show you voted.

Example

Your town wants to build a new school and needs money, so they ask people to vote on whether to issue bonds (like borrowing money).

You go to vote and see a ballot with 'Bonds—Yes' and 'Bonds—No'. You put a cross next to 'Bonds—Yes' if you want the new school, or 'Bonds—No' if you don’t. Then you give your ballot to the inspector, who puts it in the box, and the judges write your name on a list.

§ 19724 Bond Election Voting Rules

Voting shall be by ballot, without reference to the general election law in regard to form of ballot, or manner of voting, except that the words to appear on the ballot shall be, “Bonds—Yes,” and “Bonds—No.” Persons voting at the bond election shall put a cross (+) upon their ballots, with pencil or ink, after the words, “Bonds—Yes,” or “Bonds—No,” as the case may be, to indicate whether they have voted for or against the issuance of the bonds. The ballot shall be handed by the elector voting to the inspector, who shall then, in his presence, deposit the ballot in the ballot box, and the judges shall enter the elector’s name on poll list. (Enacted by Stats. 1976, Ch. 1010.)
