§ 1906 County Prisoner Education Programs

Key Takeaways

  • •The county can decide to have schools or classes for people in jail or working on county farms or road camps.
  • •The county school boss (superintendent) is in charge of setting up and running these classes.
  • •The county school board handles the money and rules for these jail schools, just like they do for regular schools.

Example

A county jail has a lot of people who never finished high school.

The county can vote to start a school in the jail. The school boss will set it up, and the school board will decide how much money to spend on books, teachers, and classrooms—just like they do for regular schools.
