§ 17220 Schoolsite Nonuse Payment Exemption

Key Takeaways

  • •If a school doesn't have to pay money for not using a piece of land (like a playground or empty lot), this rule can keep going every year.
  • •The school boss has to tell the state every year that nothing has changed and they still don’t need to use the land.
  • •The state decides if the school can keep skipping these payments.

Example

A school has an empty field they don’t use because there aren’t enough kids to need it.

If the state says the school doesn’t have to pay a fee for not using the field, the school can keep avoiding that fee every year—as long as the principal tells the state each year that the field is still not needed.
