§ 16718 Urban School Construction Aid Apportionments

Key Takeaways

  • •Money for school construction can be promised even if there isn't enough in the fund right now.
  • •Payments can be made from the fund even if there isn't enough to cover all promised payments.
  • •No money can be taken from the fund if it's supposed to go to the General Fund or is needed for other approved uses.

Example

A school district is promised $1 million for a new building, but the fund only has $500,000 right now.

The state can still promise the $1 million and even start paying part of it, but they can't use money that's supposed to go to the General Fund or is already set aside for other things.
