Key Takeaways

  • •The state decides how much it costs to build a school for each student in the area of a state project.
  • •Schools guess how many kids will go to school because of the state project, using the best info they have.
  • •The state checks these guesses and must approve them before giving money to the schools.

Example

A new housing project is being built near a school, and many new families with kids are expected to move in.

The school district guesses how many new kids will come to the school because of the housing project. The state checks this guess and decides how much money the school needs to build more classrooms for these kids.
