§ 16542 School Construction Funding Calculation

This law explains how the state calculates money to give to school districts for building schools. It uses the number of kids in the district and the cost to build schools in that area.

Key Takeaways

  • •The state gives money to school districts to help build schools.
  • •The amount of money depends on how many kids are in the district and how much it costs to build schools in that area.
  • •The calculation includes both direct and indirect project children, but indirect children are only counted as 55% of the cost.

Example

A school district has 100 kids and wants to build a new school. The cost to build a school for one kid in their area is $50,000.

The state will use this law to figure out how much money to give the district to help build the school.

How to Calculate

Total Money = (Number of Project Children × Cost per Pupil) + (Number of Indirect Project Children × Cost per Pupil × 0.55)

  1. Find the number of project children in the district.
  2. Multiply that number by the current construction cost per pupil in the area.
  3. Find the number of indirect project children in the district.
  4. Multiply that number by the current construction cost per pupil and then by 0.55.
  5. Add the results from Step 2 and Step 4 to get the total money for the district.

A district has 100 project children and 50 indirect project children. The construction cost per pupil is $50,000.

Result: $5,275,000
