§ 29565 Severability Of Provisions

Key Takeaways

  • •If one part of the law is found to be invalid or doesn't work, the rest of the law can still be used.
  • •The law is designed so that if one piece is broken, the other pieces can still do their job.
  • •This rule helps keep the law working even if a small part has problems.

Example

Imagine a law that says you must wear a seatbelt and also have a special sticker on your car. If a court says the sticker rule is unfair, you still have to wear your seatbelt.

The seatbelt rule is still valid and must be followed, even if the sticker rule is thrown out. The law is built so that one bad rule doesn’t ruin the whole thing.
