§ 27003 Severability Of Provisions

Key Takeaways

  • •If one part of this law is found to be invalid or doesn't work, the rest of the law still stands.
  • •If the law doesn't apply to one person or situation, it can still apply to others.
  • •The law is designed so that small problems don't break the whole thing.

Example

Imagine a law that says no one can sell candy near schools, but a judge says that rule doesn't apply to ice cream trucks.

Even though ice cream trucks can still sell near schools, the rest of the law stays in place. Other candy sellers still can't sell near schools.
