§ 10007 Corporation Sole Legal Powers

This law says a 'corporation sole' (like a church led by one person) can do things like sue, make contracts, borrow money, buy or sell property, and receive gifts, just like a regular person can.

Key Takeaways

  • •A 'corporation sole' can sue or be sued in court, just like a person.
  • •It can make deals, borrow money, and buy or sell property without needing court permission.
  • •It can also receive gifts or inheritances, like money or property left in a will.

Example

A church led by a bishop wants to buy a new building for services.

The bishop can sign a contract to buy the building, take out a loan, and even sell old church property to pay for it, just like you could if you were buying a house.
