§ 8454 Separate Site Improvement Contracts

Key Takeaways

  • •If a project has a separate contract just for site improvements (like landscaping or paving), that part is treated as its own separate project.
  • •Starting work on the site improvements does not mean the whole project has started—it’s only the start of that specific part.
  • •This rule helps keep track of different parts of a big project separately.

Example

A company is building a new shopping mall. They have one contract for building the actual mall and another contract just for the parking lot.

Even if workers start paving the parking lot, it doesn’t mean the whole mall project has officially begun. The parking lot work is its own thing, and the mall construction is still waiting to start.
