§ 8402 Site Improvement Lien Rights

Key Takeaways

  • •If you do work to improve someone's land (like building a fence or paving a driveway), you can ask for money if they don't pay you.
  • •This rule helps workers get paid for their work on someone else's property.
  • •The worker can put a legal claim (called a lien) on the property until they get paid.

Example

You hire someone to build a new patio in your backyard, but you refuse to pay them after they finish the work.

The worker can use this law to put a lien on your house. This means you might have trouble selling your house until you pay them for the patio.
