§ 5154 Accountancy Corporation Licensing Requirements

• •If you run an accounting company in California, everyone in charge (like bosses and owners) must have a special license to do accounting work.
• •This license can be from California or another place, but it has to let them do the same kind of accounting work.
• •If someone doesn’t have the right license, they can’t be a boss, owner, or manager in this kind of company.

Imagine you and your friends start an accounting company in California. You all went to school for accounting, but only two of you passed the test to get your California accounting license. The third friend has a license from New York.

Under this law, all three of you can be bosses or owners of the company because you have the right licenses—even the friend with the New York license, as long as it lets them do the same accounting work as in California.
