§ 2473 Podiatrists Vaccine Prescribing Authority

Key Takeaways

  • •Foot doctors (podiatrists) can give flu and COVID-19 shots to people 3 years and older.
  • •They must take a special training course every 2 years to learn how to give shots safely.
  • •They have to keep records of the shots they give and tell the patient’s regular doctor.
  • •The rules for this can change quickly if needed, like in an emergency.

Example

A 10-year-old kid goes to a foot doctor for a checkup. The doctor can give the kid a flu shot if they want one.

The foot doctor is allowed to give the flu shot because the kid is over 3 years old, and the doctor has taken the right training.
