§ 1699 Defamation Protection For Reporters

Key Takeaways

  • •If you report someone to the board about their behavior in a special program, you can't be sued for lying (defamation).
  • •This protection is only for reports made to the board or a committee, not for gossip or other talks.
  • •The board will help defend you if someone tries to sue you for what you reported.

Example

You tell the board that a doctor in a recovery program is still drinking alcohol.

If the doctor gets mad and tries to sue you for lying, the board will help protect you because you were just reporting what you saw.
