§ 128 Selling To Unlicensed Contractors

Key Takeaways

  • •It's illegal to sell stuff to someone if you know they'll use it to do a job they don't have a license for.
  • •This rule doesn't apply if the sale is under $100 and paid in cash.
  • •If you break this rule, you can be fined at least $1,000 and might go to jail for up to 6 months.

Example

You sell a special tool to someone who tells you they'll use it to fix electrical wiring, but you know they don't have an electrician's license.

You could get in trouble because you sold them the tool knowing they'd use it to do a job they're not allowed to do.
