§ 12511 Instrument Testing And Sealing

Key Takeaways

  • •If a scale or measuring tool is checked and approved by a local sealer, it can be used in the state without needing another check for a certain time.
  • •If a scale or measuring tool is checked and approved by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, it can be sold without needing a local check first.
  • •Even if a scale or measuring tool has been approved, it can still be checked again at any time to make sure it's still correct.

Example

A grocery store buys a new scale to weigh fruits and vegetables.

If the scale is checked and approved by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the store can start using it right away without needing a local sealer to check it first. But even after it's approved, someone might still come to check it later to make sure it's working right.
