§ 6251 Judicial Commitment Petition Form

Key Takeaways

  • •This law is about asking a judge to check if someone needs special help because they might be a danger to themselves or others.
  • •A person (like a family member or doctor) can fill out a form to tell the judge why they think someone needs help.
  • •The form must include basic info about the person (name, age, where they live) and why they might need help.
  • •The judge can then decide if the person should be brought to court for a check-up.

Example

If your friend is acting really strange, hurting themselves, and won't get help, you can ask a judge to check on them.

You fill out a form with their name, age, and why you're worried. The judge reads it and decides if your friend needs to come to court for a check-up.
