§ 5540 Mental Health Records Confidentiality

Key Takeaways

  • •Your mental health records are private and can't be shared without your permission.
  • •There are some exceptions, but usually, no one can see your records unless the law says so.
  • •This rule is there to protect people who get mental health help.

Example

You go to a therapist to talk about your feelings.

Your therapist can't tell your boss or friends what you talked about. It's private, just like your diary.
