§ 4481 State Hospital Leadership Appointments

Key Takeaways

  • •The big boss (Director of Developmental Services) picks two important people for each state hospital: a clinical director and a hospital administrator. One of them will be the main boss of the hospital.
  • •If the main boss or the clinical director isn’t a doctor, the big boss must also pick a medical director who is a doctor. This person makes sure the medical care in the hospital is good and gets better.
  • •The big boss also picks a program director for each program in the hospital. For hospitals that help people with developmental disabilities, they can also pick a medical program director.

Example

Imagine a state hospital where the main boss is not a doctor. The big boss must then pick a medical director to make sure all the patients get good medical care.

This means even if the main boss is good at running the hospital, if they’re not a doctor, there has to be a doctor in charge of making sure the medical stuff is done right.
