§ 371 Adoption Mental Health Guidance

Key Takeaways

  • •If a kid is adopted or gets a legal guardian, the social worker must give the new family written info about mental health help.
  • •The info must say it's important to find therapists who know about adoption or being a guardian.
  • •The family should look for therapists with special training in adoption or permanency issues.

Example

A couple adopts a 7-year-old boy who has trouble adjusting to his new home.

The social worker must give the couple a paper explaining why they should find a therapist who knows about adoption. The paper should also tell them what kind of special training the therapist should have.
